Caramel Apple Crisp Recipe

Apple Crisp is a classic Fall favorite!  Adding caramel gives it an extra sweet boost and really brings out the season.  This easy recipe can be prepared in under an hour (that includes bake time) and is completely homemade.  The caramel is baked in with the apples and creates an gooey layer under the crispy oat topping.  It’s perfect topped with some vanilla bean ice cream!

Caramel Apple Crisp

For the crumb topping:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • dash of salt
  • 2/3 cup unsalted butter diced into small chunks
For the Apple filling:
  • 6-8 large Granny Smith apples peeled and sliced thin
  • Tbsp butter melted
  • Tbsp flour
  • Tbsp lemon juice
  • Tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • dash of salt
For serving (optional)
  • Vanilla Ice Cream

Instructions

1.  Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
2.  Peel and slice apples into bite size pieces.
3.  In a small bowl, combine melted butter and flour until well blended. Add lemon juice, milk and vanilla and stir well. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour butter mixture over apples and toss to coat. Pour apple mixture into an 9×13-inch baking dish and spread into an even layer.
4.  In a mixing bowl (I used my Kitchen-aid mixer), combine the crumb topping ingredients =r until it resembles small crumbs.   Sprinkle crumb topping evenly over the apples.
5.  Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and top is set. Remove from oven and allow to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
