The Sunflowers at Eckert’s Farm

The gorgeous sunflowers at Eckert’s Farm in Belleville, Illinois are in full bloom and ready for visitors! The gigantic 5-acre maze is much like a corn maze, except with sunflowers. These huge flowers are a spectacular sight to see and are the perfect setting for a photo opportunity. The maze will be opening Friday, July 24, 2020, please check their website or Facebook for dates and times.

I visited on a hot day, the hottest day of the week! But even the heat didn’t keep visitors away from an opportunity to explore the maze, take photos, and share Instagram-able moments! In addition to the sunflowers and maze, Eckert’s has a variety of activities and places to explore. Right now peaches and blackberries are ready for picking, you can pick yourself or grab a bushel at their market (on location). They looked and tasted perfectly delicious!
Maze Admission
The maze is $3 per person (under 2 years old is free), which includes the maze and field access (access to all the fields for picking veggies or fruits). Every guest, 2 years old and older will need to purchase a field access pass online (they are limiting the number of guests per half-hour as we keep everyone’s safety top of mind). After you purchase online, you then pay for your sunflower admission once you arrive at the farm.
Eckert’s Market & Gardens
After the maze, you’ll want to be sure to check out their deli, meat market, store, and gardens to stock up on essentials. Outside in the gardens, they sell a variety of plants, from garden plants to shrubs and flowers. Inside you can purchase everything from gift items to fresh fruits and veggies, to jams, salsa, meat, and more! They have a bakery with delicious looking baked goods, made with fruits directly from their farm.
While there I noticed that they offered kid’s cooking classes, there was a class going on that I briefly observed. They have the cutest classroom set up for these and the kids seemed to be really enjoying themselves. Eckert’s offers a lot of opportunity for children and families such as school tours, classes, activities, and even free concert nights.
Finally, a must for your Eckert’s outing is to stop by the frozen custard stand for some delicious custard! When we were there they had the peach custard as a special and it was SO good – I highly recommend it. There is also a restaurant on-site as well, I didn’t get a chance to eat there but the Country Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They offer curbside pickup service and online reservations!
Opened all year!
Eckert’s is also open year-round for all of your needs, from fruit picking in the summer to Christmas trees in the winter. And there is never a time of the year when I’m not needing a pie or local meats, which makes the bakery, market, and butcher a convenient stop for all your daily and holiday needs!
COVID-19 safety
Eckert’s is doing the following, and more, to ensure the highest level of safety for customers and employees. When traveling and visiting businesses, as always, please check state and business guidelines before arriving and be safe for yourself and others!
- Social distancing is implemented. Sunflower fields are by reservation to limit the number of people in the field at once.
- Curbside grocery services are available for online orders (as well as for the restaurant).
- Masks are encouraged and employees wear masks.
- Wagons to the fields have dividers and will limit the number of riders at a time.
- Hand washing stations are available.

The St. Louis Dining Experience
This is so fun! There’s a sunflower maze nearby in Greenfield that I’m going to try to go to in a few weeks when they announce their peak bloom.
