In New Castle, Indiana, a new spot is causing a stir – Ink & Ale Brewhouse. This place is a total game-changer, offering a blend of casual, elevated dining and entertainment. Their menu has something for everyone, from classic pub grub to creative dishes. And the best part? They have live music and other cool activities like axe throwing and a golf simulator.

What sets Ink & Ale apart is that it’s family-friendly. They have a kids’ menu and high chairs, so you can bring the little ones along and not worry about them getting bored. It’s the perfect place for a night out for the whole family, a date, or an outing with friends.

Located within the historic Courier Building (now known as “The Hub”), Ink & Ale is a testament to the storied past of the Courier-Times Newspaper. The 183-year-old publication still operates in another part of the building, but the presses have fallen silent, with the paper now printed elsewhere.  The menu is carefully crafted to match the overall vibe of the brewhouse. Throughout the restaurant, vintage newspaper clippings, nostalgic photographs, and printroom-inspired furnishings adorn the walls and décor, creating an ambiance that blends modern dining with the rich history of New Castle’s journalism. Interior design firm Christina Mae skillfully crafted an atmosphere that pays homage to the Courier-Times’ legacy while offering a contemporary dining experience.

Tasteful Creations: Burgers and More

Ink & Ale Brewhouse offers more than just burgers on its menu. Executive Chef Josh Sanchez brings a unique flair to the menu, offering a variety of dishes, including specialty burgers, sandwiches, salads, pasta bowls, and starters. My favorite is the “New Level B.L.T” with its generous portions of bacon, arugula, tomato, garlic aioli, and balsamic onion jam.

Pulled Pork Nachos are a popular starter. They are covered in beer cheese and drizzled with housemade ranch and BBQ sauce. The Bang Bang Shrimp is also a crowd-pleaser.

The craft burgers stand out with their unique personalities. The “Lave Chronicles Smash Burger” has two patties topped with onion rings, bacon, cheddar, and beer cheese. The “Queso Gazette Burger” comes with guacamole, tortilla chips, and queso cheese dip. The “Signature Tribune” features balsamic onion jam, smoked blue cheese, arugula, peppadews, and bacon. BBQ lovers will enjoy the “Front Page BBQ Smash” loaded with pulled pork, bacon, coleslaw, and BBQ sauce. Gluten-free buns and other options are available for those with dietary restrictions.

Ink & Ale offers a stocked bar with an extensive selection of beer and wine, including several locally-produced options. Beer lovers can enjoy a Craft Beer Flight, where guests can choose four brews (including cider) for under $10. Wine flights are also available, providing various options to cater to every taste preference.

Axe Throwing, Golf Simulator, and Live Music

In addition to food and drinks, Ink & Ale Brewhouse offers a wide range of entertainment options, including live weekend music, axe throwing, and a golf simulator.

Axe-throwing enthusiasts can rent one of the three axe-throwing bays by the hour or half-hour. Walk-ins are welcome, but you can reserve a spot by calling ahead, especially during busy weekends. Online reservations will be available soon. Before beginning, all participants will sign a waiver and receive axe-throwing instructions.

The Foresight GC3 golf simulator bay is only available for walk-ins. During weekday afternoons and early evenings, you will likely have the best chance of walking in without waiting. Groups and parties can reserve the axe-throwing bays, the golf simulator, and unique seating lounges.
