If you know me, you know I LOVE unique lodging. Give me a cabin with a story, a one-of-a-kind stay, or accommodations that come with an experience, and I’m sold. So when I had the opportunity to stay at Sojourn Lodging in Sevierville, Tennessee, I knew I was in for something special. And let me tell you, Sojourn did not disappoint!
Sojourn Lodging is a family-owned and operated tiny cabin resort featuring more than 30 uniquely designed cabins, each built by the owner. Accommodating 2 to 6 guests, these tiny cabins offer a different kind of Smoky Mountains getaway, blending modern comforts with the outdoor activities and atmosphere you might expect from camping.
But what makes it extra special? Beyond the cabins, mountain views, and amenities, the property sits atop a natural cave system. Yes, you can actually stay in a tiny cabin above an underground wonderland!
Here’s what to know about staying at Sojourn and why it’s worth adding to your Smoky Mountains getaway itinerary.
Unique Tiny Cabin Accommodations
One of the first things I noticed when I checked in at 4 p.m. was the gorgeous mountain view. My cabin sat near the top of a hill, offering a beautiful view of the Smoky Mountains. It was the perfect spot to sit on the front porch with a cup of coffee and watch the sunrise. If you’ve followed my travels for a while, you know nothing makes my soul happier than a good cup of coffee and a scenic view.
I stayed in one of the four-person cabins, but I also toured some of the other accommodations. Some cabins can sleep up to six guests, making them a great option for couples, friends, or small families traveling together.
The cabins are small, as you’d expect from tiny cabin accommodations, but mine had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. I especially appreciated the cozy layout and the privacy while still having access to all the amenities.
My cabin featured a queen-size bed on the main level and another queen bed in the loft. It also had a private bathroom with a stand-up shower, a living area, a kitchenette, and even a desk where I could work remotely. As a solo traveler who often works on the road, having a dedicated workspace was a nice bonus. I could enjoy the peaceful surroundings while still getting work done.
Traveling solo? I felt safe and comfortable during my stay. The cabins have safety features, lights are positioned throughout the resort, and other guest cabins are nearby. As someone who travels alone frequently, those details matter to me.

Resort Amenities: More Than Just a Place to Sleep
One perk of staying at Sojourn is access to the resort’s recreational amenities. You can spend your time exploring the Smokies, or you can stay on the property and enjoy a little fun without ever getting in your car.
- Pickleball courts
- An outdoor recreational area
- Fire pits
- Grilling areas
- Disc golf
- An observation deck
- A walking trail
I love accommodations that offer more than just a bed for the night. On-site activities let you spend time outdoors and make the lodging part of your travel experience. And at Sojourn, the experience goes underground, too!
Stay Above a Natural Cave System
One of the most unique experiences at Sojourn is just a short stroll from your cabin: the Grotto, home to the Hall of Adullam Cave Tour, a natural cave system. This isn’t your typical lodging amenity!
Led by an expert guide, this beginner-friendly cave adventure takes you through fascinating rock formations, waterfalls, and fossilized marine life. It’s a chance to explore an underground world you won’t find just anywhere! The express tour typically lasts one to three hours, depending on your group size. While it’s designed to be beginner-friendly, one section is physically challenging, so it’s good to know beforehand. The first 25 feet require crawling beneath a ceiling that’s just three feet high, followed by another 18 feet where you can continue in a hunched walking position.
Once you make it through that passage, the cave opens into spectacular, cathedral-like chambers with ceilings reaching up to 35 feet! You don’t need to be a natural climber or hiker to take on the cave. Each guide makes the trip to, from, and inside the cave as comforting as your tiny home stay.
If you enjoy unusual attractions, geology, or adding something unexpected to your itinerary, a cave tour could be a fun addition to your stay.
A Unique Venue for Weddings and Special Events
Dreaming of a wedding or special event with a mountain view? Sojourn also offers facilities for private gatherings and celebrations. You can even reserve all 37 tiny homes (sleeping 120+ guests total) and book the entire resort.
You can rent the observation deck area for events, which includes seating, fire pits, a private bathroom, and a kitchenette. Depending on your event needs and arrangements, you may also have access to the welcome center facilities and the grilling and entertainment deck. With the surrounding mountain scenery and wooded setting, it’s a beautiful alternative to a traditional event venue.
Traveling With Pets? Bring Your Furry Family Members!
Another bonus: Sojourn is pet-friendly!
I saw several four-legged guests during my visit, so your furry family members don’t necessarily have to miss out on the getaway. If you’re planning to travel with your pet, check the resort’s current pet policies and any applicable fees before booking.
And while Sojourn is conveniently located off a main road, the cabins are set back in a wooded area. The setting feels private and tucked away, so you can enjoy the surroundings without feeling like you’re staying right beside a busy road. A barbecue restaurant is also just across the street – it’s worth making time for!
Exploring the Smoky Mountains From Sojourn
Sojourn’s location makes it a convenient home base for exploring several popular Smoky Mountain destinations. Here are a few nearby places to consider adding to your itinerary:
Great Smoky Mountains National Park: Approximately 30-40 minutes away, depending on your destination within the park and traffic. Spend the day exploring scenic drives, hiking trails, overlooks, and the park’s incredible natural beauty.
Pigeon Forge: About 15-20 minutes away, Pigeon Forge offers attractions, entertainment, shopping, restaurants, and plenty of things to do for a full day of exploring.
Gatlinburg: Another popular stop for mountain scenery, dining, shopping, and attractions. Travel times will vary depending on traffic and your destination.
Greenbrier area: About 25 minutes away, this area offers beautiful mountain scenery and a quieter side of the Smokies. I explored the area around dusk, which was a lovely time to take in the views and look for wildlife. It feels more remote, with scenic roads and fewer crowds than some of the region’s busiest tourist spots.
One of my favorite things about a Smoky Mountains trip is that you can combine the popular attractions with quieter scenic drives and less-visited corners of the region. Staying at a place like Sojourn lets you do both.
If you’re looking for a Smoky Mountains getaway that offers something a little different, Sojourn is worth considering. It’s not traditional camping, but it’s glamping with the conveniences of modern accommodations.
As a solo traveler, I appreciated having a cozy cabin of my own, a desk for working remotely, and a beautiful view to enjoy with my morning coffee. Couples, friends, and small families can also find cabins suited to their group size. Most of all, I love that the owner built the cabins and that Sojourn is family-owned and operated. That personal touch gives the property character and helps set it apart from more traditional lodging options.
If you’re planning a trip to Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, or the Smoky Mountains, consider adding this unique tiny cabin resort to your list. And don’t forget the coffee. That mountain-view porch is calling!
