Have you heard of Hotel Versey? It’s a former Days Inn now transformed into a boutique hotel with a Cubs theme, located within walking distance of Wrigley Field. If you’ve read my previous posts about Wrigleyville, you know I love Hotel Zachary, which is directly across from Wrigley Field. While Hotel Zachary offers a more luxurious, pricier experience, Hotel Versey provides a budget-friendly alternative. Finding an affordable hotel close to Wrigley Field was difficult until I discovered Hotel Versey.

Hotel Versey is a fantastic place to stay; it’s clean and perfectly located. It’s within walking distance of Wrigley Field. Keep in mind that taxis, Uber, or Lyft can be hard to find on game nights, especially since many surrounding streets close around the 8th inning. The walk was straightforward and safe.

Hotel Versey Location

644 W Diversey Pkwy, Chicago, IL 60614

Located on Diversey Avenue, Hotel Versey features a charming entrance with a playful baseball player figure above it. The automatic sliding doors lead into a hallway decorated with artwork that captures the essence of Chicago, the Cubs, and Wrigleyville. I won’t reveal too many details, since I believe you’ll enjoy exploring it firsthand. I particularly loved the Harry Caray painting and the lively murals!

Hotel Versey Art and Vibe

The small lobby is filled with inviting chairs that encourage you to relax and enjoy the art around you. A ceiling-hung sculpture made of stacked books, a Cubs-themed artwork with baseballs, and a friendly front desk staff create a welcoming atmosphere. Even the elevator is an art piece, covered with bumper stickers from floor to ceiling. While it exudes a trendy, hipster vibe, this is typical of many big cities.

Hotel Versey Rooms and Amenities

I stayed in a small queen room on the fourth floor. As expected in downtown hotels, it was quite tiny and best suited for one or two guests. The room comfortably fit a queen bed, plus a small nightstand, desk, wardrobe, and chair. The bathroom was a bit larger but had only a walk-in shower. Despite recent renovations, the room kept many vintage details. Behind the bed, a mural displayed iconic views of Wrigley Field.

The room didn’t have a mini-refrigerator or microwave, but I used the ice bucket to chill my drinks. If you’re not keen on paying $5 for bottled water in the room, a nearby Walgreens sells drinks and snacks, and there is a Trader Joe’s across the street. The room featured a high-end Nespresso machine, which I found to be a nice upgrade. Wrigleyville offers many dining options; check out my recommendations here. DoorDash also delivers until 2 a.m., but you’ll need to meet the driver in the lobby since the elevator requires a guest card for access.

Diversey Street Things To Do

Neighboring Hotel Versey is close to the well-known Chicago donut shop, Stan’s Donuts & Coffee. Don’t miss the chance to visit during your stay! The hotel offered me coupons for a free donut with any drink purchase. These donuts are large, rich, and definitely worth trying. The buttermilk bar was a carb-loving delight. I also admired the vibrant display of colorful KitchenAid mixers, which stood out to me as a baker!

A wide range of shopping and dining options surround the hotel. Directly across the street is a TJ Maxx, along with several smaller shops. I found some unique bookstores and boutique shops just a block away. A movie theater and a mini Walmart shopping center are also nearby. If you forget something at home, you can easily replace it nearby!
