Start Your Day: Arrival + Small-Town Stroll
Begin your day in New Castle, the heartbeat of Henry County. Grab a coffee (or two) and stroll through downtown at your own pace. Pop into local boutiques and shops to find a variety of treasures, from vintage to handmade goods.
Tip: If you’re planning a full-day outing, I always recommend bringing a lightweight day bag and a portable charger to keep everything handy.
While exploring, drive over to Junque in the Trunk to browse unique items and hidden gems – it’s a warehouse of treasures! Then swing by a local eatery or drive-thru for snacks or a quick pre-lunch bite before your morning adventure.
Mid-Morning: Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame
The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame is a museum and more – it’s where decades of Indiana basketball history come alive. Immersive experiences celebrate legendary players, historic teams, and moments from the 1890s to the present day. The interactive exhibits allow you to take a game-winning shot, test your trivia skills, and explore memorabilia from icons like Larry Bird and Oscar Robertson.
What makes it even better? Admission is completely free. Plan to spend at least an hour here, though true basketball fans could easily stay longer.
Lunch Break: Local Flavor
After visiting the Basketball Hall of Fame, take time to refuel at one of Henry County’s local eateries. These establishments offer a variety of options, including tenderloins, burgers, pizzas, and homemade pies that are sure to satisfy your cravings.
Find a comfortable seat and enjoy a relaxed, unhurried meal to make the most of your visit. This is what makes small-town dining its best, where the experience is just as enjoyable as the food.

Afternoon: Hoosier Gym
Next stop: The Hoosier Gym in Knightstown, the real-life filming location for the iconic movie Hoosiers.
Take a short drive to Knightstown and step into a piece of cinematic and basketball history. More than just a museum, this historic gym is a living time capsule. Walk onto the famous court, explore the original locker rooms, and even shoot a few hoops. It remains an active icon of basketball history, hosting games and welcoming visitors today.
Late Afternoon: Explore the Outdoors
After your time on the court at the Hoosier Gym, head outdoors for a change of pace and fresh air. Henry County offers parks, trails, and open spaces perfect for walking, relaxing, or letting the kids play.
If you’re visiting in warmer weather, pack a swimsuit and cool off at Baker Pool or take a swim at Summit Lake. From neighborhood parks to scenic views at Summit Lake State Park, there are plenty of options to enjoy the fresh air.
Evening: Disc Golf & Dinner
For the evening, consider checking out one of Henry County’s disc golf courses. Baker Park in New Castle has two courses, and there are also two courses in Knightstown and one in Lewisville.
If you’ve never played before, it’s an easy and fun activity to try – especially if you have your own set.
Wrap up your day with a meal at a local restaurant, reflecting on the day and deciding where to grab dessert.
After Dinner: A Sweet Treat
No trip is complete without dessert. Stop by one of the many local ice cream shops for a cool, sweet treat.
